Maybe I shouldn't hate soccer

After watching some of the quarterfinals on the weekend, I've adopted a less hostile attitude towards soccer, but not entirely.

The France/Brazil match was great.  We could only hope to have more matches like that.  Zidane was brilliant... Even an idiot like me can see how he controls the match.  However, if you read my previous post, I think one of the reasons I found the match enjoyable, was the way France played.

  • No Time Wasting - They got up by one goal and KEPT TRYING TO SCORE!  What a novel idea!
  • No Faking - For the most part, they got up when they fell down without rolling around on the ground in agony.  Another novel idea!
The Portugal/England match was more garbage, though I'll have to admit, I found the penalty kicks, not only exciting, but unusually, a demonstration of skill.  Portugal's goaltender saved 3 of 4 penalties, and actually got a hand on the other one.  That was more than guessing right... He knew something and saw something and was able to react.  France is now my team, I've decided.  Allez Les Bleus.  No bandwagon here, No Sir! :-)
