My first blog post....?

Well, I guess I finally did it.

I've been f'ing around with blog technology for a couple years without actually starting my own.  I finally just got a cheap dedicated host and set up Movable Type.  Really, I was (and still am) doing it as a method of understanding the technology and the culture.  I actually spent a couple months fooling around with Movable Type setups and  templates and external services in an effort to really understand this stuff..... To "grok" it, as my friend James puts it.  Tweaking the templates, adjusting the XML output in my feed file, signing up for Feedburner, tweaking Apache configs... really diving deep, or as deeply as a non-programmer type like me can dive.

Anyhow, the Mesh06 show in Toronto is what finally tipped me a bit over the edge.  I've been too concerned about form over function and thought I probably didn't have much to say.  One of the impressions I took away from the show is that people do this for all sorts of different reasons, and that it doesn't necessarily matter if anyone reads this stuff, so long as I get something out of it.

And if somebody does read it and that sparks a conversation, well, that's great.

Anyhow, more impressions of Mesh06 to follow.
