Belated Impressions of Mesh06
Overall, highly positive. I'm generally sceptical of many of these events, even dismissively referring to them as wankfests, but I came away from the show energized, inspired and relieved that not everyone thinks I'm insane for my fascination with all of this stuff. As well, for someone who's a bit of an introvert, it's a good thing to just go and chat up interesting strangers and get their impressions of your ideas.
Highlights:
- Chatting w/Paul Kedrosky about my startup and having him be relatively encouraging about my take on the Domain Parking/Aggregation business.
- Rick Segal's enthusiasm
- The inspiration of 37Signals' Jason Fried, doing it slow, well and without outside money. Went out and bought the Getting Real e-book and am trying to live by it. It's tough seeing all of your mistakes in print.
- Mathew Ingram's dry humour.
- Snakes on a Plane meme explained.
